Whitefish residents who are interested in becoming more involved with their local government are encouraged to consider running for elected office. In November, a mail ballot election is scheduled. Positions for elected office include three (3) city councilors for a four-year term, and one (1) municipal court judge for a four-year term. All newly elected officials will take office January 2022.
Qualified electors interested in filing can do so April 22, 2021, through June 21, 2021, by completing a Declaration of Nomination and Oath of Candidacy form and a C1A form at the Flathead County Election Office (40 11th Street Wes, Suite 230, Kalispell), or visit their website, https://flathead.mt.gov/election/. Pursuant to the Montana Constitution and state law, to be considered a qualified elector an individual must be a resident of Whitefish and registered to vote.
Those seeking a Council seat must be a resident of Whitefish for at least 60 days preceding the election. Municipal court judge pursuant to Section 3-6-202 M.C.A, must have the same qualifications as a judge of a district court, as set forth in Article VII, section 9, of the Montana constitution, except that a municipal court judge need only be admitted to the practice of law in Montana for at least 3 years prior to the date of appointment or election.
