Prescription Drop Off

Prescription Drop Off - Waste Not Program

The Whitefish Police Department in partnership with the Northwest Drug Task Force and Citizens for a Better Flathead, participates in the Waste Not Program for prescription Drug Disposal. The Waste Not Program states:

"Safe and secure disposal sites for pharmaceutical products and are an important step toward reducing the growing rate of prescription drug abuse. At the same time, proper disposal helps to protect water quality in the Flathead. Medications should never be flushed or poured down a drain. Endocrine disrupter compounds, pharmaceuticals and personal care products were detected in 13 of 14 shallow groundwater wells that were sampled in the fall of 2010 by the Flathead Lake Biological Station in the Flathead River drainage."

You may bring your unused prescription medicine to the Whitefish Police Department for disposal Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. Please do not bring liquids or syringes. You may place the medication in a plastic bag in the clearly marked disposal box or you may use the plastic baggies provided to place the medication in prior to putting it in the collection bin.
