The mission of the Whitefish Housing Authority is to acquire, create and maintain permanently affordable housing in the greater Whitefish area. WHA serves as a resource that educates and advocates for low to moderate income persons at all levels of society to realize home ownership. Through the permanently affordable model we preserve a stock of resident controlled homes held affordable in perpetuity. We value cooperation, strengthen neighborhoods, make prudent use of our resources and encourage sustainability.

Mountain View Manor

The Whitefish Housing Authority operates Mountain View Manor a 50-unit apartment building designed for seniors and disabled, and constructed in 1970. Mountain View Manor is public housing and as such the calculation of rent is based on federal guidelines. The Whitefish Housing Authority receives a subsidy from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to bridge the gap between the costs of operation and rent received. The beautifully landscaped structure is conveniently located in downtown Whitefish at 100 East 4th Street.

Homeownership

In cooperation with local developers and contractors, the Whitefish Housing Authority aidst households to purchase homes. Due to the soaring cost of housing in Whitefish, the Whitefish Housing Authority established a goal to increase the supply of affordable housing by 10 homes annually. The homes are purchased by first time homebuyers and they must meet certain income guidelines, have good credit and take a homebuyer education class (see schedule below). The Whitefish Housing Authority provides down payment assistance which is later repaid by the homeowners and the proceeds utilized for other new first time homebuyers.

Housing Choice Vouchers

Housing Choice Vouchers is a federally funded program allowing very low-income families to rent safe, decent and affordable privately-owned rental housing in Whitefish. Eligible participants are issued a voucher authorizing them to locate rental units on the open market.
