FIRE RESTRICTIONS

As of Thursday, August 16 at 12:01 a.m., all of Flathead County, including the City of Whitefish will begin Stage II Fire Restrictions.  Stage II Restrictions include the following:

  • Campfires and other fires are prohibited everywhere. Liquid petroleum and LPG stoves that can be turned off are allowed.
  • Smoking is prohibited outside of vehicles, buildings, and developed recreation sites, unless you are in a 3-foot diameter area cleared of all burnable vegetation.
  • Operating motorized vehicles off designated roads and trails is prohibited.
  • Operating any internal combustion engine, welding, operating a torch with open flame and using explosives are prohibited from 1:00 pm – 1:00 a.m. A one-hour foot patrol in the work area is required following cessation of all of these activities.

The Whitefish Fire Department has provided quality emergency response services to the Whitefish community for over 105 years. Providing services such as structural and wildland firefighting, all hazard, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue services, community fire and life safety education, as well as fire code enforcement to those living, working and traveling through Whitefish. These services are provided from 2 strategically-located fire stations by a highly trained staff of 15 career and 10 volunteer firefighter/emergency medical responders.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Whitefish Fire Department to:

  • Protect the lives and property of the people of the City of Whitefish, the surrounding Whitefish Fire Service Area, and those traveling through our community from: fire, natural disaster, and hazardous materials;
  • Save lives and improve life by providing emergency medical services as part of the Flathead County EMS system;
  • Rescue people from precarious situations;
  • Prevent fires, injuries and emergencies through education, prevention, and fire and life safety code programs; 
  • Provide a safe working environment for all our firefighters; career, part-time and volunteer, that encourages excellence through the synergy of our team;
  • Develop relationships with our automatic mutual aid partners to aid in providing timely quality emergency services. 

Administrative Division

Contact Information:  The Administrative Division manages the overall operations of the Fire Department. The Division includes the Fire Chief and other assigned support staff. The Chief also responds to local and mutual aids calls to provide command support during emergency operations.
